its some bizarre combination of validating and defragging and allowing each box to sit there for a certain amount of time before trying to relaunch the game. Uninstall TF2, then re-install so that it can get fresh files....and/or uninstall steam to completely wipe the old files, and start from scratch. which also always shows 0 fragmentation and 0/ clusters. this whole process usually takes me 45minutes, just get tf2 to launch.I don't have access to any TF2 maps in Gmod, so my guess is that something messed up when installing (I did get a random blue screen right the **** out of nowhere today when it was at 100% (with 100% apparently not meaning it's done) so that could be it). What I did:-Backup Local Files to an external memory drive-Delete all local content-Restore the back up-Play TF2Considering you reinstalled a bunch of times, not sure it'll work. I've already tried every other bit of advice I've run into, so what's to lose? It opens up the "prepairing files" window, that fades; Then it opens up a validating steam files window witch goes from 0% to 100% instantly, the window fades, then nothing. What im going to try and do is backup the game files via the property menu, delete local content, and then reinstall via the back up.List of things that did not work: reinstall; delete the .blobs; deleting tf2 folder and revalidate; Things im currently trying: backup content, delete local content, reinstall from backup.

It appears to compare checksums of your local files with the cloud and will re-download any invalid files again. the only thing that seems to work, is following up the forced validation with a cache defragmentation...For a few months now, Steam has been validating my files whenever I open it. What exactly is Steam doing when it says that it is validating files, and why does it need to do it so frequently?Sup, my tf2 has been acting up today and won't launch. It instead goes to try validate the steam/tf2 cache, but once it reaches 100% it just does nothing and hangs. It downloaded the TF2 updates last night and now the validation on the file is stuck at 100%, even after exiting Steam and even after rebooting the computer.
